POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a weekend brawl which left a teenager fighting for his life.
An 18-year-old Willington man was due to appear before magistrates on Tuesday in connection with the incident.
Gary Norman, of the Carville Estate, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following a disturbance outside Crook Football Club on Saturday night.
Another man was questioned by police and released on bail pending further inquiries.
Police say up to 30 youths could have been involved in the 11.30pm incident which followed an 18th birthday party at the club. Alex Harker, aged 17, from Milburn Street, Crook, was critical but stable after surgery for head injuries.
Anyone who was in the area at the time is urged to call an incident room at Bishop Auckland police station, on (01388) 603566.
