FROM this newspaper 100 years ago. - Tailless puppies: Mr Henry Newstead, of South Kilvington, has a cross-bred terrier bitch, which has just had a litter of pups, and three of them are entirely tailless. The pups are healthy and there is not the least sign that Dame Nature intended any of the trio to be endowed with tails.
From this newspaper 50 years ago. - Northallerton's May Fair had little of the merry month about it this year. The show people put up their booths in wind and rain, maintained them for the most part in wind and rain and took them down under the same conditions after their worst post-war weekend at Northallerton.
From this newspaper 25 years ago. - The work to remove high alumina cement beams from Telegraph House, Darlington, will start on May 24, at a cost of £300,000 to the owners, Equitable Life. A spokesman for the architects, said that the work will take ten months. "The main tower with the lift and stairs is not affected, but all the office floors and ceilings from the roof down are being taken out and replaced. The government gave the building an official clearance during the alumina cement scare but the owners decided to remove all traces of the cement.
