FOUR schoolboys have dared their teacher, a youth worker and a councillor to join them for a mile-long canoe trip for charity.

The youngsters, from Bishopsgarth School in Stockton, are taking part in the canoe event on the River Tees on Friday, June 1, to raise money for sport and leisure equipment for the local community centre.

Although the boys have canoed before, their teacher Lesley Morton, youth worker Julie Mitchell and Councillor Bill Noble are new to the sport.

They will undergo a day's training before taking part in the sponsored event.

Mrs Morton said: "The boys know what they are doing, it is us adults who are novices.

"Pupils have already raised money for the community centre by washing teachers' cars, and hopefully this will raise even more."

The pupils have formed a group called Bishopsgarth School Young Citizens, which is dedicated to raising money for underfunded causes in the community.
