Chester-le-Street Town Juniors - There were three reasons to celebrate for the Under-17s to celebrate a 6-1 victory at Sandhole on Sunday.

Firstly, it was the teams 100th league win since formation in 1995 - representing an impressive 70 percent win ratio over the last six seasons; secondly, Andrew Robinson, making his 124th appearance for the team, netted his 74th goal and became the club's all-time leading scorer and finally there was an exceptional performance from man of the match Darren Henderson who netted four superb finishes.

The Cestrians have struggled with injuries in the last two months and this will probably see them finish third in the New County League behind Dunston and Consett. With seven players missing in midweek, the blue and whites were horribly defeated 6-0 at Dunston Federation.

On Sunday however, with six key players still out, they restored some pride with the win against Sandhole. Daniel Thomson and David Hope both fed Henderson with superb passes for him to finish brilliantly to put Chester 2-0 up at half-time. In the second period, Henderson chipped two more before Robinson set his record from the penalty spot. Daniel Thomson's excellent 25 yard free-kick completed the scoring.

Reflecting on the team's run over the last six years, manager Andrew Muxworthy said, "We have always had a good side and I think that is reflected by the fact that in the first four years we only finished outside the top two on one occasion.

"Last season was disappointing to finish fourth and this year I was hoping for a lot better. Our record from October to February was excellent, but unfortunately our form in the other months has got on top of us. Injuries have knocked us real bad and we have struggled to find a winning league formula in recent weeks."

New County League leaders Consett Juniors Under-17s were the visitors to Moor Park on Tuesday evening.

The Cestrians, with five first choice players and other squad members missing, had players patched up and playing through the pain barrier.

However, they put in a spirited opening display that saw the sides evenly matched and level at 0-0 by the break.

In the second period both Darren Henderson and Andrew Robinson went close for Chester-le-Street. A long ball from the back caught out Chester's rearguard and Paul Balmer ran clear to score. Chester rallied, looking to get back in the game but were caught out by a bad defensive mistake that resulted in a goal for Mark Turner.

Balmer gave the scoreline a convincing look towards the end.

Consett were well worth the victory on their second half display and it is now between themselves and Dunston Federation for the championship with both teams remaining undefeated.

On Sunday they are at home to Blackfyne (kick-off 2pm).

Brompton (Northallerton) Juniors
