A HOUSE that was damaged when a neighbouring home was destroyed in a suspected gas blast is to be demolished.
Surveyors have told Lesley McCance that her home of six years suffered such structural damage in the explosion that it will have to be bulldozed.
Her neighbour, RSPCA care worker Nicola Dunning, survived the blast on Tuesday morning and was able to crawl to safety through a burning tunnel of debris.
She is still in hospital recovering from burns to her face and hands, but her home in Eaton Court, Foxwood, York, was reduced to rubble.
Ms McCance was given the news about her home after a meticulous examination was carried out by surveyors and engineers. The demolition will probably take place at the weekend.
She is staying with her mother at the moment, but is planning to move in with her boyfriend shortly.
She said the experience had made her very wary of the dangers of gas.
"I was terrible last night. I was checking to make sure everything was switched off, especially the cooker."
The Health and Safety Executive is continuing its investigation of the cause.
"An appliance may have been involved, the cooker is the best bet," said principal investigator Malcolm Moore
