A Darlington student was the outstanding entrant in an annual welding competition.
Paul Alderson, who attends Darlington College of Technology, won the Teesside Welding and Joinery Society's annual trainee award.
He was entered for the best City & Guilds welding and fabrication technician category by his tutor Paul Brennan, lecturer in the college's school of engineering.
Mr Brennan said: "Paul worked hard throughout the two years of the programme, displaying a high level of practical skills and achieving very good examination results."
Paul is continuing his college studies and has now progressed on to the one year City & Guilds fabrication and welding competence's part three programme, simultaneously working for the CA Group in Evenwood.
The competition is an annual contest open to all colleges, universities and training centres in the Teesside area.
