RADIO presenter and Hartlepool fan Paul "Goffy" Gough will appeal live on air for millionaire Darlington football boss George Reynolds to stop taunting him.

The Century FM star has been inundated with phone calls from the Quakers' chairman since Hartlepool were beaten 5-1 in the Third Division semi-final play-off against Blackpool on Wednesday. Minutes after the final whistle, the former safe-cracker began bombarding Goffy's mobile phone, leaving messages teasing him about the result.

And the taunts went on throughout the night as Mr Reynolds called almost every 30 minutes - even setting his alarm for 4am so that he could continue ringing him until 8am.

The calls continued to come throughout Thursday and even yesterday morning, until Goffy called Mr Reynolds back to ask him to stop pestering him.

And to make sure he gets the message across, Goffy has vowed to play some of the recorded messages during his show tomorrow morning.

He said: "It's been non-stop. I've had to leave my phone off the hook.

"It was funny for the first 24 hours. He just revelled in it, but it's getting really irritating now. I know I wind people up on my show but this is past a joke.

"I'm going to ask him live on air to stop and then I'll play some of the messages so people realise just how monotonous it's been."

But Mr Reynolds was unapologetic yesterday, claiming it was just a bit of fun.

He said: "This was all just a bit of fun. Goffy had been boasting and was cocksure they would get through.

"I was waiting for the result, listening to it on the radio. I had wanted them to get beat but 5-1 is an utter disaster.

"At least we got to Wembley when we were in the play-off. I just wanted to rib him, and I even set my alarm so I could keep calling him but he wouldn't pick up the phone."

Mr Reynolds added that he would be listening to Goffy's radio show between 9am and noon on Sunday.
