A CHEQUE for £400 is on its way into the coffers of St John Ambulance in North Yorkshire, thanks to the players at Leeds United.
Most of the Yorkshire club's first team signed a shirt for Ripon physiotherapist Dave Jelley.
Rather than keeping it himself, he offered it as a prize to anyone who could guess the time it would take him to complete the London Marathon.
The unusual draw was won by mother-of-two, Carol Abbott, who guessed the time nearest to 2hrs 59mins 19secs.
But 399 other people had a go at £1 a time - and, their money went towards the North Yorkshire and Teesside St John Ambulance Bricks and Wheels Appeal.
The charity has a target of £840,000, which would cover the cost of nine new vehicles and a first aid training centre in the region. So far, the total stands at £417,000.
