A MAN has been charged with attempted murder.
Colin Aston Bell, 35, of Alder Grove, Leadgate, near Consett, County Durham, was remanded in custody by magistrates at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.
He is accused of attempting to murder of Joe McArdle, 54, of Park Villas, Leadgate, who is in a critical condition in Newcastle General Hospital.
Mr Bell is also accused of wounding Tony Lavery, 36, also of Park Villas, in an incident early on Thursday.
Mr Bell is due to make a first appearance at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday.
