RESIDENTS are hoping to develop a recreation area on land opposite a primary school.

The Top Lakes Residents' Association, Redcar, is behind the scheme and ideas include a roller-blading and BMX area, a junior play area, five-a-side football pitch, seating area and a toddlers' play area.

The idea has come from local children, who complained that there was nothing to do.

Local councillors and the residents association agreed that action must be taken. The nearest parks are at Kirkleatham and Locke Park, which is too far for most of the children.

The group hopes to get funding from the Single Regeneration Budget or the National Lottery. It is also on the lookout for ideas to develop the scheme. Anyone with suggestions can call Maureen Redfearn at the Community Regeneration Team on (01642) 492391.
