BOOKWORMS from North Yorkshire can join the party to celebrate the announcement of this year's Orange Prize.

A tea party with an orange theme will be held at Richmond Library on Queen's Road, between 2pm and 4.30pm on Thursday, June 7.

But there is still time to vote for any of the authors on the short list of six, or write reviews on any of the titles included in the competition.

Work by local people will then join other reviews penned by celebrities on a website at www.orangeprize.com

Richmond librarian, Angie Simpson, said: "Books listed for the Orange Prize always include some exciting writers.

"I know our readers are always keen to read something different and I hope they will now be helped to do so as a result of our involvement with this national initiative."

The competition was set up in 1996 to celebrate and promote fiction by women and is awarded to the best novel of the year, written in English.

The winner receives a cheque for £30,000 and a bronze "Bessie" trophy.

More details on the Orange Prize novels can be obtained from Richmond Library or by telephoning (01748) 823120.
