A SURVEY of the potential pitfalls faced by the disabled in a Darlington village is to be passed on to the local council.

The survey, organised by Heighington councillor Gerald Lee, was carried out in response to concerns about accessibility in the village.

A team of volunteers walked three routes through Heighington, pinpointing obstructions for wheelchair users. These included narrow footpaths, high kerbs and awkward corners.

The results of the survey are being presented to Darlington Borough Council. They are also being passed to the Darlington Association on Disability.

Coun Lee said: "There is a problem here and I will be pressing the council for action."

A council spokeswoman said: "If anyone has concerns about accessibility we would be interested to hear from them and talk about any problems they have encountered and suggestions they may have for improvements.
