A COMMUNITY group is celebrating the news that it will be moving into a new home in the autumn.
For the past 22 years, a tumbledown, ex-Boys' Brigade hut has played host to a playgroup, a women's institute, fitness classes and Middlesbrough Chess Club.
Users learnt yesterday that an application to the National Lottery for a grant of £91,500 has been successful.
The project already has £100,000 from Middlesbrough Borough Council, and £14,000 raised by local residents.
The new Marton Community Centre will replace a 50-year-old hut in Cypress Road, Marton, near Middlesbrough.
Community centre chairman Councillor Tom Mawston will meet council architects this week, to discuss a building timetable.
He said the Lottery grant was the result of a lot of hard work by local supporters, including community development manager Abdul Khan.
