A COUNCIL officer is basking in the glow of success after being nominated for a top home energy award.

Chester-le-Street District Council's environmental support officer, Colin White, has been shortlisted for the Home Energy Conservation (HECA) Officer of the Year award.

The awards are designed to recognise, encourage and reward anyone who made significant strides in helping people cut down on energy bills in the three years up to last December.

The people nominated are those with an imaginative approach to difficulties and problems.

Mr White was nominated by the North-East HECA Forum for his work in developing the council's energy efficiency grant scheme and providing advice for people and community groups throughout the district.

Council leader Malcolm Pratt said: "We are delighted at the approach that Colin has taken towards raising the profile of energy conservation, as well as making real progress in the take up of grants and building partnerships.
