A WOMAN who escaped prison after being shot has been warned that she could still face a jail sentence.

Danielle Hobbs, 28, was shot in the stomach as she walked home in South Shields in March 24 last year. She was placed on a life-support machine and doctors were forced to remove one of her kidneys.

However, the shooting was a taste of Hobbs' own medicine after she punched Cheryl Davison, 15, before beating her unconscious minutes later.

The attack took place in June 1999 at South Shields fairground. Hobbs was arrested along with another girl and admitted assault.

While awaiting sentence Hobbs was shot as she made her way home.

Judge David Hodson said he would normally impose a prison term, but added: "I accept you nearly died when you were shot, and you now appreciate what it is like to be a victim."

Hobbs, of Bardon Court, South Shields, was sentenced to a probation order for two years in September last year.

But Newcastle Crown Court heard yesterday how she failed to comply with the requirements of the probation service.

Her case is now back before Judge Hodson and she will be sentenced for the original crime.

The case was adjourned yesterday for reports.
