PASSENGERS on a service bus have been urged to give police details of a collision in which a three-year-old girl was killed.

Aleisha Jane Ord was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident, as she crossed Burnip Road, in Murton, east Durham, outside her grandmother's house.

She appeared to have walked from behind a stationary bus into the path of a second bus travelling in the opposite direction.

Her family was due to hold a party at their home in Station Road South, Murton, to celebrate Aleisha's fourth birthday on Sunday.

About 30 people were on the stationary Wear Buses' 154 vehicle, which pulled up at a stop in Burnip Road at about 10.30am on Saturday, at the time of the accident.

PC Keith Butler, of Durham Police accident investigation unit, said passengers on the stationary bus, heading from Seaham to Durham, could have information which may appear innocuous, but which could be important to the inquiry.

He urged anyone on the bus to ring the accident unit, at force headquarters, on 0191-386 4929, as soon as possible.
