A BID to turn part of a Darlington burial ground into a permanent car park is to be revived.
In November last year, Darlington Borough Council refused planning permission for a car park at the Quaker burial ground in Skinnergate.
The application, submitted by the Society of Friends, was rejected on the grounds it conflicted with local plan policy regarding town centre parking.
But the friends have appealed against the decision, saying that disabled or elderly members have used part of the graveyard for parking in the past, and the application just formalises the arrangement.
They have also prepared a certificate of lawfulness, which shows that the car parking use has been carried out over the past ten years and pre-dates the planning control. The area, where nine parking spaces are planned, has no graves.
