OLD boys from Richmond School will make a poignant trip across the Channel later this year.
A party from North Yorkshire will visit the beaches where Allied invasion forces landed in 1944, and pay their respects at the graves of friends from the region who died.
Among the old boys are John Craven, of the Royal Hussars, whose father was a police inspector in Richmond; John Stephenson, of Leyburn, who was serving with the Royal Armoured Corps; and the RAF's John Broadley.
Small wooden crosses inscribed with the words: "An old boy of Richmond School, Yorkshire - Remembered 2001'' will be left at each grave.
Although information on John Broadley - also known as Alan - is well documented, the Richmond School Old Boys Association is hoping to hear from relatives of the others who may be able to provide more details about their lives, both during and before the war.
Anyone with information can contact the association by telephoning (01723) 863894.
Two places remain on the trip in September, which also includes visits to other sites in Normandy. Anyone interested in taking a twin-bedded or double room can telephone the same number
