GNER is trying to persuade business travellers currently choosing to drive or take the plane, to let the train take the strain.
Until June 15, anyone buying a GNER executive ticket for at least £190 can claim free first-class leisure travel for two for use at the weekend.
As rail services return to normal, GNER is trying to re-establish its competitive edge over domestic airlines.
Christopher Garnett, GNER chief executive, said: "Despite recent disruption to the rail network, the underlying benefits of frequency, speed of service and quality of on-board service to passengers still remain the best reasons to choose long-distance rail travel in preference to flying, or motorway driving."
The Work2Play business travel promotion is being advertised through a £500,000 national advertising campaign.
Full details of the business travel promotion are available from GNER stations, or the company's telecentre on 08457 225 125.
