DRIVERS from one of the region's largest bus operators raised more than £2,000 to help a youngster have a vital operation.

After reading about the plight of Hope Elliott, Go North East drivers embarked on a number of major fundraising events.

A total of £2,600 was raised for the Hope for Hope appeal and it was added to other cash which enabled Hope to have her operation.

The Sunderland youngster underwent surgery earlier this year to try to correct her facial condition, known as cystic lymphovenous malformation.

Go North East manager Yvonne Dixon said: "The efforts and generosity of our staff at Go Wear Buses has been immense and this is reflected by the size of donation that has been given to the Hope for Hope appeal.

"We are delighted that such a worthy cause has been assisted.
