ONE of the region's biggest fireworks displays will light up the skies on Saturday.
The display, part of the Orange Wow (Window on the World) festival at North Shields Fish Quay, North Tyneside, is expected to attract more than 40,000 visitors.
Orange Wow will take place over the three days of the bank holiday weekend and will feature 150 hours of live music and street theatre.
The fireworks display is being sponsored by British Gas, whose operations manager, Jan Sims, said: "The festival was a great success last year and we hope this year's fireworks display will be even more spectacular."
The fireworks display will be set to light classical music and will be simultaneously broadcast on BBC Radio Newcastle.
Presenters Julia Hankin and Paddy MacDee will join festival director Brian Topping on the World Stage at 10pm on Saturday for the fireworks countdown.
Paddy said: "It means thousands of listeners who can't make it to the festival on the evening will be able to see the fireworks out of their window and listen to the music on Radio Newcastle."
