A TEENAGER returned to re-launch the ship she sent on its maiden voyage ten years ago.

Lindsay Temple, 16, re-launched Northumbrian Water's passenger cruiser Osprey at Kielder Water on Monday.

Lindsay, who is from Kielder Village, also cut a ship-shaped cake to mark the ferry's tenth anniversary.

Osprey has sailed 100,000 miles and carried 200,000 passengers around Europe's largest man-made lake.

Julia Scott, marketing manager, said: "To mark Osprey's special occasion, we have introduced a great deal for families until the end of June.

"Children will travel free if accompanied by two fare paying adults and will also receive a complimentary Kielder Water jigsaw puzzle to take home."

The outbreak of foot-and-mouth closed the reservoir but it is gradually being reopened.

Some of the banks will be open for fishing next month, and there is already some fishing from boats.

The visitor centre at Tower Knowe and the Leaplish Waterside Park are both now open with their various attractions.

The only area not fully open is the network of tracks round the entire reserve.
