THEY may not be the best football team in the area, but Sadberge Primary School, near Darlington, can boast that it has the most sporting players.

The school took part in the Darlington Primary Schools football championship at Longfield Comprehensive School last week, run by former Manchester United professional footballer Paul Bielby, and sponsored by the Masterskills Sporting Academy.

Sadberge did not win the competition, but were awarded the Fair Play Trophy for their sportsmanship in the competition, which the school can keep for a year.

The inscribed trophy was presented to the Sadberge team at a presentation evening at the school, which was attended by parents, on Friday.

Sadberge Primary School headteacher Hilary Barren said: "The decision was taken by the coaches of the 19 teams who took part, and the referees, and we are very proud of our children for winning this cup."
