A LIBERAL Democrat peer is visiting the region today to drum up support.
Lord Trevor Smith, a professor of politics, from Yorkshire, will be visiting Durham, Newcastle and Northumberland.
Accompanied by Carol Woods, LibDem candidate for Durham City, Lord Smith will visit Durham University. There, he will hold a forum on tuition fees and higher education issues.
Carol Woods said: "It is important to Liberal Democrats that everyone is able to reach their full potential - that means not dissuading people from going to university by placing them in financial difficulties. We would scrap tuition fees and reintroduce maintenance grants immediately."
Lord Smith will also go to Newcastle's Quayside, meeting LibDem candidates from Newcastle and Gateshead, to discuss regional devolution.
He will campaign in Newbiggen-by-the-Sea, Northumberland, where LibDem Wansbeck candidate Alan Thompson said: "We are growing in strength in our region."
