AN East Cleveland museum will be glowing thanks to a donation from a local company.

The Tom Leonard Mining Museum in Skinningrove has recreated the underground experience that miners across East Cleveland would have endured more than 100 years ago.

Candlelight helps with the museum's authenticity and local supermarket chain Bells Stores has donated more than 1,000 candles to help the museum with the project.

Beverley Loughran, from Bells Stores, said: "We like to help out local organisations, and many of our staff have enjoyed visits to this museum in the past. Hopefully, this will encourage more to visit in the future."

Kate Brennan, marketing manager at the museum, said: "This part of the museum is one of the areas that visitors are always impressed by, and we are so pleased that with this help we can continue to offer visitors such a unique experience."

The museum opens Monday to Saturday, until October, from 1pm with last admission at 3.45pm, and on Sundays in July and August. For more details, call (01287) 642877.
