PUPILS and staff at a school's early years department have been ranked top of the class by education watchdogs.
Youngsters at Queen Mary's School, Topcliffe, near Thirsk, celebrated yesterday after an Ofsted inspection praised their behaviour, as well as the commitment and ability of teachers.
Joint principal Ian Angus said: "We are all absolutely delighted with the findings. The ethos of the school as a place where learning is carried out in a happy environment, where children are keen to do their best and where working with parents is regarded as a key factor, has clearly been appreciated.
"It is a tribute to the staff, our parents and, of course, the pupils themselves."
The early years department is headed by Mary-Jane Foster, who has been in the job for seven years.
