FORMER soccer star Bernie Slaven teamed up with a 6ft rabbit from outer space to cheer children on in a penalty shoot-out.
The ex-Middlesbrough player attended the event at Hummersea Primary School, Loftus, yesterday, with Freddie Farkle, the extraterrestrial rabbit.
The event was organised by soccer coach Simon Carson to raise money for a school strip. Deputy headteacher Gavin Atkinson said: " Bernie turned up and signed autographs, and as each child took the penalty, he gave them sweets".
As the champion scorer, 11-year-old Nathan Oakley was presented with a trophy.
Bernie Slaven was less successful, missing his first penalty.
Mr Atkinson said he expects the event to have raised about £400
