Worthington CIU Summer League - Newton Aycliffe pulled off one of their best victories for some time when they beat the visiting league leaders, Wheatley Hill.

A for the loss of only one point. Ronnie Hall gave the home side a great start by inflicting the first league defeat of the season on Ronnie Peacock and Steve Nelson did likewise to the previously unbeaten Dave Walker. Stuart Neil then lowered Jack Wright's colours for only the second time in the season. Dennis Clish scored the only point for the Hill before John Briddick completed a great performance for Aycliffe.

Old Shildon cut the gap on Wheatley Hill to only two points after they were never headed on their trip to Fishburn A. Billy Goggins put the visitors ahead with John Carter equalising with a 38 break. Stephen Bennett restored the Shildon lead only to see John griffin pull the match level again. In the decider Shildon's Charlie Blake beat Peter Davison.

Ferryhill moved up to share the top spot in the Second Division with Langley Park after they only dropped one point to the visiting Brandon. Ian Roddam, Les Lewis, Glyn Toas and Bernie Jones took the points for the home side with John Hall replying for Brandon.

Langley Park now share the top spot following their whitewash success at Newhouse B. The Park's winners were Paul Nord, Robert Roche, Kevin Keers, Stephen Coates and Ray Coates with a 32 break.

Spennymoor B top the Third Division by five points despite losing in the decider at West Auckland. Alan Rowell put the Moors ahead with Kelvin Fletcher levelling. Micky Anderson restored the visitor's lead with a 33 break only to see David Geraty square the match. In the decider West's Andrew Dent beat Wayne Parry.

Hunwick moved up the to third in the table when they only dropped one point to the visiting Crowtrees. Barry Fleming gave the home side a great start but Peter Laverick equalised. Trevor Lomax then inflicted the first defeat of the season on Crowtrees Keith McLauchlan with Tom Ward and Des mason adding further points for the home side.

At the opposite end of the Third Division there was a first victory for Tow Law on their visit to Sacriston, who never trailed until the decider. Gary Atkinson put the home side ahead with Ken Robinson replying. Malcolm Pritchard pulled the home side ahead only to see Doug Watson square the match. In the decider the Lawyers Charlie Donaghy beat Alan Richardson on the black.

Durham City are now the only team without a win this season after they were whitewashed at Meadowfield. The home winners were Craig Hughes, Stephen Hughes, John Jackson, Norman Smith and Malcolm Hughes.

Wheatley Hill B made their third win of the season as they try to get off the foot of the First Division. The visiting Willington side went ahead through Arthur Goldsborough but Tony Ellison levelled the match. Gordon Parkin restored Willington's lead but David Blyth levelled. In the decider the Hill's Steve Cave beat Tom Parkin on the black.

Spennymoor A made a good home win over Stanley Central, whose only point came from Walter Cornell. The Moors winners were Gary Easen, Alan Clarke, Dennis Dodd and Ronnie Bateman.

Shotton Palms moved down the First Division when they were beaten in the decider at Witton Gilbert. Ian Renwick put the home side ahead with Jimmy Evans levelling. John Rooney senior restored the Witton lead with John Armstrong equalising. In the decider Witton's Malcolm Peart beat Jimmy Evans junior.

Crook Belle Vue slipped down the Second Division when they had Ken Rider as their only winner against the visiting Newhouse A. The Newhouse winners were Jimmy Hassen, John Maddox, Ian Dinsdale and Steve Mountain.

Fishburn B found some of their earlier confidence with a maximum win at Leeholme B. The visitor's points came from George Whitelock, Alan Wilson, Karl Whitfield, Wayne Oliver and Keith Binks.

South West Durham Association

Albert Hill slipped down to fourth spot in the table after they lost at Darlington Cricket Club, who are now in third place just a point behind Darlington Snooker A. Hopetown's home win over Barnard Castle Folly's keeps them six points clear at the top.

In the Second Division Barnard Castle Glaxo crashed to their second whitewash when they visited Northgate and slipped down to fourth place. Shildon Elm Road and Northgate share the top spot with Ferryhill three points adrift but with a match in hand.

Darlington East End's place in the league is in danger as they failed to turn up for their match at Bishop Auckland Gents A. This the third time they have failed to appear for an away fixture and could well be expelled from the league.
