FOOTBALL club chairman Steve Gibson is about to be upstaged on his own turf - by daughter Katie.

The 11-year-old dancer will perform with London West End singers at a musicals extravaganza to be staged at Middlesbrough FC's Riverside stadium, on Saturday, in aid of the Teesside Hospice.

More than 100 local schoolchildren have been selected to open the show, one of the biggest musical extravaganzas the North-East has seen, with their rendition of There's No Business Like Show Business.

But 24 of the best - including Katie - have been chosen to join four professional singers in the song, Vaults of Heaven, from the show, Whistle Down The Wind.

The youngsters are from the Stage Coach theatre arts groups, drawn from the Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Yarm, Darlington, Northallerton and Hartlepool Stage Coach groups.

Proceeds from the event will go to Teesside Hospice, which costs £1.3m a year to run.

Bafta award-winner Jamie Bell, from Billingham, was a member of the Yarm Stage Coach group and it was his teacher there, Trudy Hindmarsh, who recognised his talent and sent him for his audition for the smash hit film, Billy Elliot.

She said: "We have so many talented youngsters who come to Stage Coach and their involvement in events like The Sounds of the West End Musicals is a fantastic opportunity for our students to use this talent and to help raise money for such a worthy cause. I'm sure it will be a night not to be missed."

Advance tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are available by calling (01642) 358087 and at the Middlesborough Football Club Shop. Executive and corporate tickets are available by calling (01642) 659999.
