Durham are preparing to stage the most colourful match in the club's history. For as well as entertaining Hampshire Hawks under floodlights on Wednesday, August 15 the crowd is being invited to come along in fancy dress.

There will be a host of prizes for the most imaginative including a three day family cruise to Norway, courtesy of DFDS, for the winner of the Under-12 category. The most creative adult will win a year's supply of Carlsberg lager.

Durham's Marketing Executive James Bailey says: "Floodlights create their own atmosphere and we want to build on that by providing lots of family entertainment and fun."

Spectators searching for inspiration will be able to take advantage of a special offer from Dandy Costumes and Balloons in Newcastle who will give a 20 per cent discount for costumes hired for the floodlit match.

Spectators will get the chance to take part in the rollerball competition, run by Norwich Union. Contestants climb into giant inflatable spheres - similar to giant hamster balls - and race one another. There will be four people racing in two races and the winner goes into a grand national final with the opportunity to win £10,000.

There will also be music, replay screens, competitions, face painting, kids activity area, bouncy castle, goody bags, the grand final of the Longest Throw Competition.

For the cricketing purist the action on the pitch will be a must. Durham Dynamos are fighting to stay on top of the Norwich Union League and have a tremendous record at the Riverside this season and Hampshire Hawks are fighting for promotion.

Play starts at 4.10pm and goes on until 10.20pm. Tickets for non-members are £10 for adults and £5 for juniors (U18s). A family ticket (two adults and three children) costs £25 and Durham has special offers for group bookings. Call the club on 0191 387 1717 or visit www.crickettickets.net
