A TEENAGER with leuk-aemia can look forward to a holiday in Cornwall with his family, thanks to generous pub regulars in the village where he lives.

Regulars at The Crown, in Brompton-on-Swale, arranged the holiday for 13-year-old Alan Clough, who has suffered a relapse, despite a bone marrow transplant when he was four.

One group walked a ten-mile route to Richmond and back on Sunday, raising £250 in pubs along the way.

At The Crown, other fundraisers organised a barbecue, with live entertainment during the evening.

Dozens of local firms also donated prizes for a raffle, which raised about £900. With some sponsorship money still to come in, it is estimated the day will raise about £2,000.

Half will go to St Teresa's Hospice, in Darlington, but the remainder will help make Alan's dreams come true, covering the cost of a mobile phone, a joystick for his computer, and some PlayStation games.

He has also been presented with a television and video player, as well as a Newcastle United shirt. The club has also promised an autographed shirt once the players return from Europe.

The family will also be heading for St Ives later in the year, knowing the costs have been covered.

"We've even raised enough to be able to give them a little spending money," said land-lady Morag Macintosh.

"Everyone has been fantastic, from the companies which donated prizes, to our barmaid, Karen Vinton, who rang round them all in her free time.

"It was a great day, and we would like to thank everyone who came," she said.
