THE grieving parents of a teenager who died last month in a car crash learned yesterday that their daughter had passed her A-levels and would have won a place an university.

Suzie Preen, from High Grange, Crook, County Durham, was killed only weeks after sitting her exams at Wolsingham School.

The 18-year-old's parents, Jean, 47, and Chris, 51, were given the news of their daughter's success as other teenagers received their results throughout the country.

Her mother, Jean, said: "She was really worried about it. She put in the effort and really worked hard.

"She was concerned that she would have to go through clearing but she has done really well. I think she would have been delighted. I am extremely proud of her.''

Suzie was looking forward to doing a business degree involving computer technology at Northumbria University.

To fulfil her ambition, she needed a Grade C in A-level English, which she achieved. She also gained a merit for Advanced GNVQ in business and an E for AS level psychology.

Suzie died when her Ford Fiesta car left the road as she approached the Pity Me roundabout on the A167, hitting a steel fence and trees, on Friday, July 6. She suffered multiple injuries and was certified dead at the University Hospital, Durham City.

Headteacher at Wolsingham Comprehensive, Mitch O'Reilly, paid tribute to the bright and popular teenager.

She said: "She got exactly what she needed to get into university.

"It was a sad phone call to make to her parents, but she got excellent results just as we expected she would.''
