SCHOOLS in east Cleveland are to benefit from more than £1.75m of government investment into their sports and arts facilities.
The cash is part of a Space for Sport and Art Scheme which aims to boost facilities in these areas thereby providing more opportunities for young children.
A new sports hall and changing rooms are to be built at St Peter's Primary School in Brotton. These will also be available for the use of community groups.
A general arts and sports building which will be home to a music and drama hall, art studio and community room, has been given the go-ahead for Bankfields Primary School at Normanby. Both schemes will cost £450,000 each.
Extensions costing £460,000 are to be made to Dormanstown Primary School to provide a music and drama hall as well as a multi sensory special needs and arts area.
There are also plans for similar schemes costing £450,000 at Newcomen Primary School in Redcar in the near future
