Willington League - Hunwick Quarry Burn suffered a double blow when they entertained Willington Black Horse Tavern for they went down to their first defeat of the season and also lost their top spot.

The home side had singles points from Dave Edmundson and Chris Wheeler whilst the Horse went ahead with wins from Donald Young, Harold Farrow, Joe Davies and Aynsley Rainbow.

The Quarry Burn made a temporary recovery when Dave Alderson with Alan Bolam and Gary Moffat with Dave Robson took the first two doubles. However the Horse responded with Aynsley Rainbow and Donald Young taking the final doubles. The visitors completed a very good result when Aynsley Rainbow beat Dave Robson in the captain's game to follow their success in the team game.

The Prospect Club leapt above the Quarry Burn in the table after they only dropped one point to the visiting Willington Brewer's Droop. The only unbeaten team in the league, Willington Black Horse Inn moved into third place, three points behind the Quarry Burn, but with a game in hand.

The gap at the top of the table was widened to 31 points after the unbeaten leaders, Crook Coach and Horses only dropped one point at Willington Black Horse, whilst the second placed Tow Law New Market B were struggling to beat the visiting Tow Law Station by the odd point. Crook Travellers Rest moved up to third place after winning by three points at Billy Row Royal George but they still trail the Market by ten points.

Crook Golden Fleece jumped to the top of the table after they only dropped one point to the visiting Crook Golden Fleece, who before the match shared the second place with the Fleece.

Oakenshaw are now in second place with a two point deficit on the leaders but a five points advantage over Crook Royal Sun and Crook White Swan, who share third spot. The Royal Sun have a match in hand.

Tow Law Bass

TOW Law Cattle Mart just failed to take over the top spot in the table when they were held to an odd point home win over Sunniside Moss Inn.

After the trebles were shared the Mart had singles wins from Mike Henry, Colin Boughey, Bob McFadden and Colin Boughey junior, whilst John Howe and Gerrard Beveridge replied for the Moss.

The Moss took two of the doubles but the Mart clinched the extra point they needed in the third doubles.

Dorothy Mowbray was the star in the list of individual scorers when she hit a maximum for Tow Law Rose and Crown.

Other leading scorers: CA Boughey 140 (Cattle Mart), D Thornton 140 (Newhouse Club), S Windsor, S Close 140 (Royal Oak).

Newhouse Club lead the table by two points from Tow Law Cattle Mart, whilst Tow Law New Market A are a further point adrift. However, former champions, Esh Stag's Head are only four points behind the leaders with a match in hand.

Market dropped just a single point at home to Horse Shoe to go clear at the top of the table. A surprise home defeat for Coach and Horses has seen them lose the leadership of division two to Mill Race.
