A CAMPAIGNER is appealing for funds to pay for the demolition of a concrete sculpture which has been described as an eyesore.
Easington district councillor Joan Maslin has been campaigning to get rid of the Pasmore Pavilion, in Peterlee, for 18 years.
A recent survey found that the demolition work could cost up to £30,000 and Coun Maslin is calling for help to raise the cash.
The concrete structure was designed by post-modernist architect Victor Pasmore in the 1950s, but is unpopular with residents who claim it is a magnet for vandals and drug users.
Coun Maslin appealed for someone to demolish the pav-ilion last year, but so far no one has come forward.
Officials at Easington District Council are considering the future of the pavilion.
They are expected to make a report to councillors later this year.
They are considering a number of options, including removing the work piece by piece that so it can be moved elsewhere.
The process will be difficult because the structure is beside a lake and in a residential area of the town.
