A NEW coroner has been appointed for a North-East area.
Following the death of William Duffy, who served as coroner for Gateshead and South Tyneside for 22 years, Terence Carney has been approved by the Home Office.
Mr Carney, who has served as deputy coroner since 1997, is a senior partner in his own firm Terence Carney Solicitors, of Hebburn and South Shields, and has 35 years experience in the legal profession.
Mr Carney, of Rickleton, Washington, also holds a number of posts in the community including chairman of Chester-le-Street and Durham City Enterprise Agency.
