A NORTH-EAST primary schoolteacher will today complete a week-long tour of the country playing as many cathedral organs as possible.
By the end of the day, Christopher Nixon, 25, will have played 52 organs in England and covered 2,000 miles.
Mr Nixon, of Redcar, Cleveland, began his musical marathon in Ripon, North Yorkshire, on Friday last week. The cathedrals in which he has played since include Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral.
Today, he was visiting six cathedrals, including Manchester, Carlisle, and Newcastle, before finishing at Middlesbrough.
Mr Nixon hopes to raise more than £3,000 for Children in Need. His spokesman, Simon Asker, said: "He has played everything from Bach to Queen and has been asked back to play at some of the places. As the week has gone on he has just got better and better. Christopher has really got into it and has really been enjoying it.'
