A second half strike from Les Ferdinand was enough to end Middlesbrough's two-game unbeaten run at Tottenham on Saturday.
After taking a one-goal lead after just nine minutes when Alen Boksic volleyed in with his right foot, the home side hit back with two goals in the second period.
The first came when Teddy Sheringham scored a penalty on 58 minutes, following Franck Queudrue's foul on Mauricio Taricco.
Three minutes later Ferdinand wrapped things up for Spurs, to condemn Steve McClaren's side to their sixth defeat of the season.
