A VILLAGE playing field is to undergo a number of improvements thanks to a community group.

The Brotton Community Forum, in east Cleveland, has almost £2,000 to spend thanks to a series of donations from steel company Corus, Skelton and Brotton Parish Council and the Brotton Millennium Group.

The forum, set up in the summer to give better opportunities for villagers, intends to improve the playing fields in Marshall Drive.

It intends to bring in the best play equipment available and landscape the surrounding area with trees, seating and hedges to provide somewhere for local people to go walking or jogging.

Councillor Richard Rudland, of the forum, said: "Considering we only started in July, we have made a very good start. The scheme will make a difference for people and give them somewhere to enjoy exercise."

It meets again on Wednesday, November 7, when the Marshall Drive plans will be discussed further
