PLANS for a new police station in the Blackhill area of Consett have been unveiled.

Durham Police want to convert a house in Durham Road, Blackhill, near St Andrew's United Reformed Church, to a district police station in order to be more accessible to the public.

Derwentside District Council will discuss the proposal on Thursday.

Planners have recommended the council approves the scheme.

Acting Chief Inspector Colin McGillivray said a small office in the Shotley Bridge area was not widely known of by the public.

He said: "This is all about access for the public. We want them to know where we are."

There would also be a car park for five cars if the application is approved.

Planning officer Rachel Broadbank said no objections had been received
