POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was struck in a hit-and-run incident.

The accident occurred on the A168 south of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, and the driver failed to stop.

Police were called by a member of the public at 2.30am on Saturday, claiming to have seen a man on the verge of the southbound carriageway of the A168, five miles south of Thirsk.

On arrival, the police found a 37-year-old man lying on the verge with leg injuries.

Anyone who saw the man on the road, or who witnessed the accident, which is believed to have happened late on Friday night, or in the early hours of Saturday, is asked to contact police, on (01609) 789212.
