Organisers of Darlington and District Radio-Controlled Car Club fear it will close after 15 years unless more enthusiasts join.

The club, which holds weekly race nights and takes part in competitions across the country, prides itself on giving youngsters a constructive hobby to enjoy out of school.

It encourages families to buy and work on cars to race at meetings.

The club started in 1985 and at one time had more than 80 members paying annual subscription fees.

In the past, it has attracted youngsters and adults from Darlington and the surrounding area and quickly became one of the largest model car racing groups in the North-East.

But dwindling membership in recent years has pushed the club to the verge of closure.

Chairman Jim Manning said only a handful of people attended the race nights, held every Wednesday at Hurworth Grange Community Centre.

The annual subscription fee is £5, and members pay £2 each to take part in race nights. Anyone interested is invited to visit the club to find out more
