A COMMUNITY centre garden was a hive of activity at the weekend as residents took part in Madd - Make a Difference Day.
Activities at the Old Billingham Community Centre garden included a bird box building workshop, a chance to create a rockery and to install trellises.
Make a Difference Day is an annual event organised by Community Service Volunteers and sponsored by Barclays and the Woolwich.
The creation of the community wildlife garden was started with funds from Barclays Sitesavers, but the enthusiasm of local people attracted a further £1,000 grant from the Environmental Landfill Fund.
So far, butterfly borders, trellises, a pathway and bulbs have been installed. The design of the garden incorporates the ideas of more than 40 residents and by the new year will provide a facility for groups using the community centre
