Tooth fashion craze warning

HEALTH experts are warning of the potential dangers associated with the latest fashion craze, tooth jewels. Sunderland City Council environmental health officers have teamed up with staff from the local health authority to advise shops using decorative tooth kits of the health risks. The process of fitting a tooth jewel involves preparing the surface of the tooth by etching it with acid. This can cause redness and pain to teeth and gums, or acid burns to the mouth. Bob Bowman, director of health and housing, said he thought it important that the public was made aware of the possible dangers associated with the craze.
