BUDDING performers will take to the stage in a charity talent show to raise money for a hospice that cares for terminally ill people with cancer.
Fish and chip shop owner Danny Scott, of Farndale Gardens, Shildon, threw down the gauntlet to budding stars for the event he has organised in memory of his wife, Betty, who died in May, aged 51.
Ten acts, including female solo singers, bands and comedians, will battle for honours at the Railway Institute, Shildon, on Friday, at 7.30pm.
Money raised will go to the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
Mr Scott, 53, who has already held other events in Shildon, said he was delighted by the support he had received from the community.
He said: "Everything I have asked for I have got and the tickets for Friday night have only been on sale three days and already 90 have been sold.''
More than £2,000 has been raised and Mr Scott is putting up £300 as a prize for the winner of Friday night's contest.
Tickets costing £3 are available from Mr Scott on (01388) 778767.
