AN appeal for unwanted mobile phones to be donated to charity has been extended.
Darlington Borough Council has joined forces with the Campaign to Recycle Unwanted Mobile Phones (Crump) to help sick children around the world.
In the first week of the campaign, almost 100 unwanted phones were handed in to the council and so the decision has been made to keep the initiative running for another week.
One mobile phone is enough to help pay for surgical treatment for a sick child, while just 35 phones can pay for a Ugandan children's health worker to be trained.
Phones donated to Crump are stripped down and reused, so batteries and chargers are also welcome.
Phones can be left at the town hall or council offices in Houndgate, Darlington, until Friday or sent directly to Freepost Crump.
