A BED-PUSH challenge has helped Shildon traders to raise more than £1,000 for charity.
Members of Shildon Chamber of Trade donned fancy dress outfits for the fundraising event.
They pushed a hospital bed along Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, into the Market Place on Saturday.
Volunteers then went on to take their collection buckets around the pubs in Shildon to raise even more money for BBC TV's Children in Need appeal.
Saturday's activities followed a fun night at the Jubilee Centre, Shildon, on Friday. Overall, the weekend's events raised more than £1,000.
Chairman of the chamber of trade, Brian Stoker, said he was delighted with the support that the public had shown. He was especially grateful to Bishop Auckland police for their help in organising the bed-push.
He said: "It went really well and I'd just like to thank everyone who supported us.''
Chamber members have more events planned for the next two weeks, and hope that they will better last year's cash total of £3,000
