CINDERELLA will be going to the ball twice over at Scarborough this Christmas.

The traditional panto will be staged at both the resort's main theatres, The Spa and the Futurist.

But Gareth Stewart, a partner in British Stage Productions, which is putting on the show at The Spa, said: "We are annoyed at the clash. As private promoters we announced our intentions to stage Cinderella last year. There has been a lack of coordination."

But Ian Carpendale, manager of the Futurist, said: "Both pantomimes will be very different. We announced at last year's pantomime that we would be doing Cinderella this year."

A spokesman for Scarborough Borough Council said: "These shows are put by private management. They will be presented at different periods over the Christmas and New Year holiday - and there is a third choice in Aladdin at the YMCA Theatre."
