A SCHOOL is celebrating success in the national education website Autumn Term 2001 Golden Owl Awards.

Run by schools.ik.com, the awards recognise excellence in the thousands of schools websites created using the Schools Internet Kit.

Stephenson Way Primary School, in Newton Aycliffe, is one of 12 UK schools which were awarded "sites of distinction" awards.

A kindergarten in North Carolina, in the US, was named "best overseas school".

The awards were presented at ik.com's Gloucestershire headquarters.

Stephenson Way Primary School's site can be found at www.stephenson-way.ik.org

It was chosen for the award because of the way it used the kit to provide an "extensive on-line resource".

Headteacher Barry Dobson said of the kit: "It makes running a website very simple, with only limited IT skills necessary to set up pages, etc.

"We use the site as an on-line magazine about our school and the activities we organise. More and more it is becoming a web resource, with a number of links to curriculum, homework, Government and other useful sites."
