YOUNGSTERS are being given a healthy start to their lives with gym sessions.

Children aged from four months to two years can wobble about in baby bouncers, tumble down foam ramps or climb rope ladders at the free baby gym being provided by Sure Start Wear Valley at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.

Sure Start's Helen Butterfield said: "The parents are with them all the time because one of our targets is to build relationships between children and parents.

"The sessions also help tots develop their muscles and co-ordination and let off steam."

The facility, run by the South Durham Gymnastics Centre, is available to children in Sure Start Wear Valley's catchment area, which includes St Helen Auckland, Henknowle and Bishop Auckland's Woodhouse Close Estate.

The baby gym runs every Thursday morning, from 10.30am to 11.15am, and a free bus is available. For details call (01388) 811877
